W/S 2026 Workshops

We invite you to wax-working workshops in our atelier! Each session is dedicated to one of the techniques used to create candles at Svetlica: poured candles, sculptural modeling of candles or wax objects, or weaving candles from wax rods.

The workshops are led by the Svetlica founder and chandlerlin, Nastia Grigoriadi, and take place in our studio in the north of Leipzig. We hold special lessons for children. Looking forward to meeting you!

A. Tiny hand-poured
   candles

We will gather to explore one of the oldest candle-making techniques — poured candles. At Svetliсa, this is our favorite technique and the foundation of every candle we create. We will be working with candles up to 15 cm in height. Thanks to their size, they are perfect, for example, as birthday cake candles — or for lighting during an hour to an hour and a half of focused work, or, on the contrary, a quiet moment of rest.

B. Hand-sculpting candles
   or objects

Many Svetliсa candles are rooted in hand-sculpted wax techniques. Just as bees use wax as a building material in their hives, we will learn to sculpt shaped candles and small objects from wax. In early spring, my favorite practice is sculpting a small wax vase for primroses. I would love to invite you to create one together — but if you have other ideas, I will be happy to help bring them to life.

C. Hand-weaving a candle
   from wax rods

One of Svetliсa’s beloved designs — the Vizanka candle — is woven from several wax rods. In this workshop, we will explore a few weaving techniques and create our own candle.

  • During the workshop, we have a planned break. You’ll be welcome to step outside into the courtyard, or enjoy some refreshments: wholesome snacks, herbal tea, or a bellini.

  • The class will be held primarily in English, but depending on the languages spoken by the participants, I may occasionally switch to Russian, a little bit of German, and even less Greek :-)

  • If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out: nastia.grigoriadi@gmail.com

Special workshops for kids

A. Tiny hand-poured candles

In a playful and relaxed way, we will talk about how bees make wax. Using plant and bee-inspired metaphors, we will pour our own candles and sculpt small decorative elements for them. If anything feels challenging, I will be there to help every step of the way. Everyone will leave the workshop with at least three candles they have made themselves.

B. Hand-sculpting candles
   and objects

Just as bees use wax as a building material in their hives, we will learn to sculpt shaped candles and small objects from wax. In early spring, my favorite practice is sculpting a small wax vase for primroses. I would love to invite you to create one together — but if kids have other ideas, I will be happy to help bring them to life.

  • Lessons are usually held in Russian. But if your child speaks English, please let me know. I can try to organise an English-speaking lesson or I will try to translate within a Russian-speaking lesson.

  • Worlshops are held at the candle workshop in Leipzig, on Breitenfelder str. 72
