A set of three half-meter candles. At the heart of the set lies the Obnozhka candle (from the Russian word for pollen pellet). When I was designing it, I thought about the dance of worker bees and the little clumps of pollen they carry back to the hive. When a bee visits the flowers of plants, a large amount of pollen grains stick to its body. To avoid losing the pollen and to make it easier to transport back to the hive, the bee immediately "combs" the pollen with special brushes on its legs while still on the flower or during flight, forming small clumps called "pollen baskets" on its hind legs. The bee uses a secretion from its salivary glands to stick the pollen grains together. This collection of pollen is called obnozhka.
The second candle in the set, Puziriki, resembles air bubbles released by a fish in the river water, as you stand on the shore and catch them with your gaze.
The set is named after one of the mythological names for the fiery river — Smura.
• Svetlica candles are crafted from natural beeswax sourced from local independent beekeepers. The wax is often manually purified, which means that small dark specks may appear in the candles. These are natural particles that remained in the wax during the transformation of plant nectar into beeswax.
• Each candle is handmade without the use of molds, following the centuries-old technique of poured candles. This makes every candle slightly unique, with subtle differences in shape, weight, and the character of its dot pattern.
