A set of three half-meter Rogos and Rjaska candles. The shape of the Rogos candle resembles the marsh plant Typha, which often grows along riverbanks. The Rjaska candle refers to the pattern of tiny perennial aquatic plants, typically floating in large numbers on the surface of still waters — Lemna.
The set is named after the Zeja River, my grandmother's favorite river, which she saw from above while taking aerial photographs during a time when my grandfather, a beekeeper, pilot, and photography enthusiast, was at the controls of the plane.
• Svetlica candles are crafted from natural beeswax sourced from local independent beekeepers. The wax is often manually purified, which means that small dark specks may appear in the candles. These are natural particles that remained in the wax during the transformation of plant nectar into beeswax.
• Each candle is handmade without the use of molds, following the centuries-old technique of poured candles. This makes every candle slightly unique, with subtle differences in shape, weight, and the character of its dot pattern.
